Stratford: The Art of time Ensemble presents “Shakespeare: If Music Be...” September 16

Wednesday, August 21, 2024

We are thrilled to share that the skilled ensemble of musicians and dancers from the Art of Time Ensemble will be joined by four veterans of the Stratford Festival to perform scenes from some of your favourite Shakespearean plays. 2023's Benedick and Beatrice, Graham Abbey, currently in his quarter-century season at the Festival as Capulet in Romeo and Juliet and Mark Meddle in London Assurance, and Maev Beaty, participating in the Meighen Forum this season as narrator and host of The Great Fire, will take part. Joining them is this season's Hedda, Sara Topham returning to the Festival following a year playing Sally in the original Broadway company of Tom Stoppard's Leopoldstadt, and Birmingham Conservatory alumnus Jamie Mac, most recently seen in 2023's Grand Magic and A Wrinkle in Time.

The Art of Time Ensemble first took part in the Meighen Forum in 2017 with a concert led by the great Brent Carver. Since then, they have returned with other talented performers, such as Stephen Page (2018), and highlighted the work of music legends such as the Gershwin Brothers (2019) and Leonard Cohen (2022).

Join the Art of Time Ensemble in an evening of music, dance and ideas inspired by Shakespeare. The performance is directed by Robert McQueen, who has directed theatre and opera across the country and around the world, including Man of La Mancha at the Stratford Festival in 2014. The evening will include scenes from Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet performed by this ensemble of current and past company members and Art of Time founder, Andrew Burashko. It will be accompanied by music from Erich Korngold, Sergei Prokofiev, John Cage and Rufus Wainwright, with choreography by Peggy Baker and James Kudelka.
