Blyth: Mark Crawford’s new comedy “The Golden Anniversaries” begins previews July 4

Wednesday, July 3, 2024

On July 4th and 5th, you can be the first to see a preview performance of the world premiere of Mark Crawford's new comedy The Golden Anniversaries.

Mark has become one of Canada's most successful playwrights, and we're proud that Blyth Festival audiences have played a significant part in Mark's career.

Mark's first play, Stag and Doe, premiered at the Blyth in 2014. Later, Mark started writing The Birds and the Bees while he was our Playwright-in-Residence.

Mark grew up on a farm in Southwestern Ontario and works hard to write plays with rural roots.

Mark's new comedy, loaded with love and laughs, The Golden Anniversaries, is directed by Miles Potter, who has been connected to the Blyth Festival since its inception 50 years ago.

The comedy features a star-studded cast with two actors making their Blyth Festival debut:

Jim Mezon, (the Shaw Festival) and Janet-Laine Green (Drayton and CBC TV's "This is Wonderland" and "Murdoch Mysteries").

For as long as they have been married, Glen and Sandy Golden have been celebrating their wedding anniversary by coming to the same cottage on the lake for an annual weekend of quiet romance. And this year marks a major milestone: 50 years of wedded bliss. Well…mostly bliss…er…there was that one time…oh, don’t get me started! Join the Goldens for a night of he-said, she-said, remember-whens, what-happens-now, and a long-term love for the ages.

There are only four 8pm performances and nine 2pm matinees, so don't delay, get your tickets today!

Approximate running time: 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Preview tickets are only $40 (July 4 & 5).

Opening Saturday, July 6 at 2:00 PM.

Youth tickets (under 25) are always $20.
