Stratford: The Stratford Festival presents “The Great Fire” by Roland Schimmelpfennig July to September

Thursday, June 20, 2024

Hurry up and get your tickets for this five-part immersive audio experience created by a team that includes Festival artists both past and present, evoking a world both everyday and otherworldly. Within a familiar folk setting of competing rural villages, Schimmelpfennig conjures a magical yet modern world beset by prejudice, misunderstanding, plague and climate catastrophe. And as we often find in times of trauma, there remains friendship, wonder and even love.

This experience has been conceived and directed by Alan Dilworth, whom Stratford audiences know from his direction of The Queenmaker Trilogy by Kate Hennig. It is narrated by Dora Award-winner Maev Beaty, most recently seen as Beatrice in the much-adored 2023 production of Much Ado About Nothing and Annabelle in Wedding Band. Sound is crucial to this experience and has been designed and mixed by Debashis Sinha, currently in his eighth Stratford season, during which he composed and designed sound for Romeo and Juliet as well as Casey and Diana and Women of the Fur Trade in 2023.

The experience will be hosted by Maev Beaty and Alan Dilworth on select dates, as indicated below.

No latecomers will be permitted.

This is a performance for small audiences. Limited seating is available.
