"I could not be more proud of this group of artists as they grab this play by the throat and wrestle with its uncivilized wildness," says director Moya O'Connell. "I remain astonished by Toronto's appetite for this kind of work. It's a testament to the entire team at Coal Mine Theatre that HEDDA GABLER's run is all but sold out before we open."

Hedda Gabler is a play written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. The world premiere was staged on 31 January 1891 at the Residenztheatre in Munich. Ibsen himself was in attendance, although he remained back-stage. The play has been canonized as a masterpiece within the genres of literary realism. Hedda Gabler dramatizes the experiences of the title character, Hedda, the daughter of a general, who is trapped in a marriage and a house that she does not want. Overall, the title character of Hedda Gabler is considered one of the great dramatic roles in theater.

Liisa Repo-Martell's adaptation of HEDDA GABLER is directed by Moya O'Connell and stars Diana Bentley in the title role, featuring an all-star cast of Nancy Beatty, Andrew Chown, Shawn Doyle, Leah Doz, Qasim Khan, and Fiona Reid and design by Kaitlin Hickey (lighting) and Joshua Quinlan (set and costume).
