Picton: County Stage Company announces its first Scripts & Sips play

Monday, May 27, 2024

Artistic Director Heather Braaten and Managing Director Kristen Leboeuf are thrilled to announce The Fiancée written by playwright Holly Lewis as the first play in County Stage Company’s Scripts & Sips play reading series. Directed by Dylan Trowbridge, The Fiancée will be presented at The Grange of Prince Edward Winery in Hillier, ON on Friday, July 26.

Lucy gets engaged to three men during World War II because “No one should have to go over- seas without someone to come home to.” A lovely idea, until the war ends and all three arrive at her apartment on the same evening - the apartment Lucy and her sister are in danger of losing to their angry and bitter landlady. Will Lucy find a way to say “no” to what she doesn’t want so she can say “yes” to what she does? The Fiancée is a mad-cap, wig-swapping, door-slamming, cake-facing farce with smart, hilarious women at its heart.

Experience captivating and innovative Canadian plays set against the stunning backdrop of Prince Edward County's renowned winery estates. Guests can enjoy exquisite local wines, while taking in play readings of new and fresh theatrical works. Scripts & Sips, County Stage’s new event for the 2024 season, is sure to offer a memorable evening of culture, talent, and gastronomy.
