Millbrook: 4th Line Theatre invite women to their reminiscences of careers in the Canadian Armed Forces

Tuesday, October 1, 2024

Managing Artistic Director Kim Blackwell invites members of the community to join her and playwright Maja Ardal, to share stories, memories and reminiscences on the topic of women in the military. Ardal (The Hero of Hunter Street, Wishful Seeing) is developing a play about the history and lives of women who have chosen careers in the Canadian Armed Forces. Community reminiscences are central to 4th Line Theatre’s Play Development Program and its historical research.

Managing Artistic Director Kim Blackwell stresses the importance of these events, “Reminiscences give us first-hand accounts of the history we are researching and are an essential part of developing our plays. Without this, our productions would not have the authenticity and realism our patrons have come to expect.”

Past productions developed through reminiscences include Ian McLachlan and Robert Winslow’s Doctor Barnardo’s Children, Leanna Brodie’s Schoolhouse and Ardal’s The Hero of Hunter Street.

This gathering will aid in the development of Ardal’s play entitled The Intruder. Ardal is interested in collecting stories from women military personnel, both former and present, as well as their families, friends and colleagues. Included in the event will be Peterborough’s own Major Lee-Anne Quinn.

This public reminiscence will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 4th Line Theatre’s Box Office and Administrative Centre, 9 Tupper Street, Millbrook, ON L0A 1G0.

This event is free-of-charge. Registration is required for the in-person event. To register to attend, call 4th Line Theatre’s Box Office at 705-932-4445 or email boxoffice@4thlinetheatre.on.ca.
